Dentures are a lifechanging tooth-replacement option for those who are missing most of or all of their teeth. Tasks like chewing your food, speaking clearly, and smiling with confidence are no longer a challenge. When considering the cost of dentures, there are three major factors that play a role. Continue reading to learn more about dentures and what affects their cost.

Materials Used

The quality and type of material used to create your dentures will impact how much they cost overall. For example, the least expensive dentures you can find are made from brittle, pink plastic. The teeth are made from the same material except it is white. With cheaper options like this, you pay less upfront but need to have them replaced again in just a year or two. By investing in higher quality dentures, they have an acrylic body with customized teeth made from acrylic or porcelain. They are stronger and more natural. These dentures last anywhere from 5 to 7 years before needing to be repaired or replaced.

Type of Denture

Different types of dentures are available to meet different needs. Depending on how many teeth you are missing and where they are located in the mouth, a partial denture could be the preferred option for you. Partial are made from various materials and they tend to be more affordable than full dentures. The inexpensive ones are made from pink plastic and have pieces of wire that wrap around your teeth to hold itself in place. These tend to be thicker and heavier. Higher quality partials have a thin metal framework with metal clasps that fit perfectly around your existing teeth. Implant dentures have the highest cost because they require a surgical procedure.

Preparatory Treatments

Before you get your dentures, your dentist needs to examine your mouth for signs of infection, tooth decay, previous dental work, and anything else that can impact the denture process. They will also be on the lookout for teeth that need to be removed before having your dentures fitted. When determining the cost of your dentures, you should also include the cost of extractions, gum disease treatment, and other necessary dental work.

Dental insurance plans often offer some level of coverage for preparatory procedures and dentures, so talk to your dental team about your plan. You will be showing off a complete smile in just a matter of time!
